Jan Van Lierde has been designing products since early 1990’s. He designed a full range of technical lighting fixtures for Kreon while he founded Kreon Belgium and run the company for twenty years. Afterwards he kept designing products for well-established companies such as Artemide, AntonAngeli, Contardi, DGA…

JVL Studio’s product design approach is based on two main aspects: Either to invent a new thing which has not been discovered yet; or to develop products which has the ability to fill a demand in the market.

While developing tailor made products, a specific part of a project or a client’s specific need defines the process and finally the result. The occasion may be a room with a very limited ceiling depth, or an area with electrical restrictions, or just a relocated artwork in a private residence… JVL Studio always comes with several proposals for the problem and develops custom made parts or fixtures, the production of these products is mostly handled by the Studio from prototyping process to procurement.

The other aspect of product design for JVL Studio is to develop product ranges for well-established manufacturing companies. The design approach on this process starts with the question: “

What is not been produced yet and what is the mission in the lighting industry?”

From prototyping to production, process relies on a clear communication and collaboration between the studio and the manufacturer. JVL Studio don’t hesitate to concentrate on problems in production process and provides multiple possible solutions for the manufacturer to keep the final product at its best level.
