Visual perception starts with the light emitted from a source or reflected from a surface, object or a space into our eyes. This amount of light passes through in the eye and falls on the retina. Retina is the location that the physical information in light wavelength (color), luminance and contrast converted in to a biological signal transmitted to the related areas of the brain. 

 

Light is an electromagnetic radiation that human eye can detect. Photosensitive cells in the eye are rods and cones. Cone cells deal with color and cones have three different types; Red, Green and Blue which is long, medium and short wavelengths. Human can perceive the color in between 380 to 720 nanometers that called as visible spectrum. 

 

It may be said that a healthy human eye can distinguish around a million of colors but we can easily say that people cannot perceive the whole color range. JVL Studio’s mission to show the colors out of boundaries to the clients. As an example, magenta color can be found in the color chart but you can’t find it in the visible spectrum as specific wavelength. This is a mixture of violet light with red light which magenta is a complementary color of green as close to its wavelength. By this way we trick our brain to force the out boundaries of the visible spectrum. In some cases, the phrase “what you see, is not what you get” may come true.  

 

There are colors which you cannot make with red, green and blue (RGB) light. This statement brings the color filters into consideration for lighting design to reach the outer boundaries of spectrum. Filters will bring a very wide range of colors that makes remarkable contribution to the atmosphere created with the lighting design solutions.
